On July 16, 1969 Apollo 11 blasts off the launch pad to take three men where no man has gone before. Three days later, Neil Armstrong takes the first steps on the Moon while the world watches. On July 24, 1969 the three astronauts safely land their lunar vessel in the Pacific Ocean to complete the first successful mission to the Moon. What a tremendous feat for mankind and a glorious accomplishment for the USA!
40 years later NASA celebrates their success. Many of us remember the grainy images on the television showing the lunar touchdown and events that follow. Unfortunately, most of our children do not truly understand what a momentous occasion the lunar landing was and still is today. Show them and celebrate with them the perseverance of man and all that is left to discover in our universe.
